Tasers: Right or Wrong for San Francisco
The Milk Club Hosts Community Forum on Tasers
Confirmed Speakers: Police Chief Jeff Godown and Police Commissioner Petra DeJesus
Tasers are weapons that are intended to immobilize people by shooting them with tiny darts connected to wires that deliver up to 50,000 volts of electricity. Tasers cause extreme pain throughout the body and the complete loss of muscle control, causing the person to fall over and go limp. Tasers can also cause heart failure; there have been 500 deaths connected to Taser use in the US. Taser proponents argue that it is better than a person being shot with a gun. Most major city police departments use Tasers as a form of less-lethal force. The San Francisco Police Commission will consider adopting the Taser weapon for the San Francisco Police Department at their meeting on Wednesday, February 23rd. Come out and hear directly from the Chief and Commissioners on why Tasers are right or wrong for San Francisco. The forum will feature a panel discussion followed by a Q&A.
